FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are soft locs heavy?
Soft locs can vary in weight, depending on factors like the number of locs and the thickness of the extensions used. In general, they tend to be lighter than traditional locs made with human hair or synthetic extensions. However, if you have a considerable number of soft locs, they may feel slightly heavier, but they are not typically heavy.
Can soft locs get wet?
Yes, soft locs can get wet. They are designed to be versatile and durable, allowing you to swim, shower, or get caught in the rain without significant concerns.
Nevertheless, it’s essential to care for your soft locs properly after they’ve been exposed to water, ensuring they’re dried thoroughly to prevent odor, that ‘wet smell’ after you have washed your protective style, but did not dry it properly.
Can you cut soft locs?
You can indeed cut soft locs if you wish to adjust their length and they will not unravel. As long as you check for where the wrapping hair stops and cut after that. Also take into consideration the length of your natural hair. If you accidentally cut your natural hair with your locs, it will affect your natural hairs’ appearance and take time to regrow.
How long do soft locs last for?
Soft locs can last for several weeks (5 - 6 weeks) to months, with proper maintenance. But I do recommend uninstalling them after a few weeks, to let your natural hair breathe. Then you can give your hair and scalp a deep clean and moisturize your hair.
Soft locs are designed to be a semi-permanent style as they can be refreshed at the roots with wrapping hair, offering a more extended wear time compared to some other protective hairstyles.
Do soft locs damage your hair?
Soft locs are considered a protective style, which means they help safeguard your natural hair from external damage and manipulation. When installed correctly and maintained properly, they should not damage your hair. In fact, they can promote hair growth by protecting your strands.
Just make sure your install is not super tight and take out the locs with care when you are uninstalling them.
Is soft locs a good protective style?
Soft locs are indeed a great choice as a protective style. They not only look stylish and low-maintenance but also keep your natural hair shielded from environmental stressors, promoting hair growth and minimizing breakage.
Ensure your are washing your hair and cleaning your scalp on a weekly basis, moisturising your hair at the roots, to promote good scalp hygiene that can stimulate hair growth.
Do soft locs grow your hair?
While soft locs themselves don’t directly grow your hair, they can help maintain the health and length of your natural hair. By providing a low-manipulation environment and protecting your hair from external damage, they create conditions that are conducive to hair growth.
Can soft locs be permanent?
Soft locs are typically not permanent. They are considered a semi-permanent protective style. As they can be retouched at the roots and worn from a few weeks to a few months.
But if you are considering making your soft locs permanent we ask you to consider human hair soft locs or use human hair blend.
What are extended locs?
Extended locs are normally soft locs that have been extended in length. As soft loc hair does not usually come in 30" or 36" lengths naturally, they are normally two soft locs crochet hair attached together to create that length.
Extended locs vary from brand to brand to, no one method of extending your locs. But the best extended locs are the most secure (and won't split into two) and looks as seamless as possible at the joint, for a natural transition to the 2nd loc.
How to do crochet locs?
Installing crochet locs is easy and beginners can do it too. There are two main ways to do it. First, you can create cornrows and use a crochet latch hook to attach the locs. Alternatively, go for the individual method, making them resemble faux locs. Just braid your hair, attach the locs with a latch hook, and wrap them with hair to conceal the plaits. It's that simple!
How to do crochet locs with cornrows?
To create crochet locs with cornrows, you need to section your hair into small, neat cornrows following your preferred pattern. Typically, 7-8 cornrows work well for a straight-back style. Then, get your locs ready and use a crochet hook to loop them through the cornrow braid, securing them.
Repeat this for all your cornrows until you achieve your desired look. These locs are versatile, and you can even add individual braids around the front or perimeter for more styling options.
How long do crochet locs last?
The lifespan of crochet locs can differ depending on the hair used. Synthetic ones typically last about 5 to 6 weeks. On the other hand, those made from a human hair blend or 100% human hair tend to endure much longer. Some even use them as a transition to permanent locs.
To prolong your hairstyle, you can refresh their look by using wrapping hair at the base to cover new growth.
How to keep crochet locs from unraveling?
To prevent crochet locs from unraveling, it is essential to have a secure wrapping technique. Crochet locs themselves typically stay put and don't unravel. However, when creating individual locs, proper wrapping is essential. If not wrapped correctly, individual locs can unravel and expose your natural hair. So, correct wrapping is a must for individual crochet locs.
Consider using wrapping hair for your individuals to prevent this. If that's not an option, wrap the crochet locs around your individual braid snugly but not too tightly to avoid damaging your natural hair.
How to remove crochet locs?
Removing crochet locs is not difficult, but to prevent cutting your natural hair , some care should be taken. Begin by gently loosening the locs from the bottom, slowly revealing your natural hair. If you encounter knots or tangles, use scissors to snip them away carefully.
Take your time with each loc to preserve your natural hair. After removing all the locs, treat your hair to a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning. Remember, a patient and gentle approach is the key to successfully removing crochet locs.
Are crochet locs heavy?
The weight of crochet faux locs can vary, depending on factors like the hair type and loc length. Generally, when installed correctly, these locs are not overly heavy. But keep in mind that longer locs can feel heavier due to their added length and hair volume. So, if you prefer a lighter feel, choose a shorter length. We provide weight information for each loc type, and our thick crochet locs are the lightest pre-made option we offer.
